Prepare to fall in love; the Aston Martin DBS has been reborn! The DBS moniker has been associated with many fine Aston Martin models in the past, so the latest addition to the marque has a lot to live up to. Replacing the esteemed Vanquish S, Aston Martin’s new DBS Superleggera is sure to delight.
The DBS Superleggera is a Super GT that is a breed apart from anything else currently on the market. Described by Aston Martin as ‘having beauty that is without a doubt and power that cannot be reasoned with’ we challenge you not to love it!
Epic performance is delivered by the 5.2-litre twin-turbo V12 engine which has been meticulously tuned to produce tremendous 725PS of power and an immense 900Nm torque. Prepare for a breath-taking response, with a top speed of 211mph. 0-62mph can be reached in 3.4 seconds while 0-100mph takes just 6.4 seconds and even 50-100mph can be reached in fourth gear in a mere 4.2 seconds. This consistent delivery of power is supplied to the rear wheels via an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission.
The powerful engine has been set low and far back in the chassis to optimise the centre of gravity and weight distribution. The DBS Superleggera also features aerodynamic concepts first seen on the DB11, including the unique Aston Martin curlicue design feature and aeroblade. However things are taken a step further with a F1-inspired double-diffuser which generates 180kg of downforce at VMAX; the highest figure ever for a series production Aston Martin. Plus the fitted active valves and quad tail pipes create a soundtrack that will be music to any supercar lover’s ears.
The three dynamics driving modes; GT, Sport and Sport Plus, allow you to relax or intensify the DBS Superleggera's response as you demand.
For its latest model Aston Martin has combined distinctive Aston Martin flair with stronger, broader and more muscular lines. Far from being the whim of a designer, this is a well thought-out design function to enable optimum cooling of the most powerful Aston Martin to date. While the sleek aerodynamic shape helps to keep the car firmly planted to the road to improve control.
Bespoke P Zero 21” tyres have been commissioned from Pirelli with 265/35 and 305/30 options for the ultimate connection to the road surface. While the latest generation carbon-ceramic brakes have been utilised to offer improved handling and driveability, less noise, reduced vibration and improved wear. While the double wishbone front suspension allows for increased control for a better performance both on and off the track.
The inclusion of ‘Superleggera’ in the name of Aston Martin’s latest model pays homage to the historic super lightweight construction technology from the famous Italian coachbuilder, Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera. The Superleggera construction made it onto the models of yesteryear including the DB4, DB5 and Lagonda Rapide, during its heyday. So while this construction method is no longer commercially viable, Aston Martin has taken inspiration from these past models to create the breath-taking beauty of the DBS Superleggera. The full carbon-fibre body panels means that it weighs just 1693kg making it an impressive 72kg lighter than a DB11.
As you’d expect from a car of this class the standard kit is generous, with day-to-day comfort and convenience never forgotten. Keyless entry, a tyre pressure monitoring system and a 360° camera with Parking Distance Display and Park Assist all ensure a stress-free commute. While the advanced Audio System has DAB with Bluetooth audio, phone streaming, iPod, iPhone and USB playback, so staying entertained and connected is effortless.
Aston Martin President & Chief Executive Officer, Dr Andy Palmer shares his thoughts on the latest model:
“DBS Superleggera not only marks the return of a great Aston Martin name, but signals our return to the very pinnacle of the Super GT sector. Handsome beyond measure, its lightweight carbon composite and aluminium body is sculpted into a shape with tremendous presence and charisma. Thanks to the remarkable torque available from its twin-turbo V12, DBS Superleggera also packs a breath-taking punch, yet its dynamics have been carefully honed to engage drivers of all ability levels. Immaculately styled, obsessively engineered and outrageously potent, the new DBS Superleggera is every inch the Aston Martin flagship”.
